Premium Hand Coffee Grinder

The Knob Coffee Grinder is a project developed by a small team, and I am one of the co-founders. The project concept emerged when a coffee grinder I designed for a design competition in 2018 won 1st place. Over the next three years, we refined this idea and launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. During the campaign, our design garnered significant attention, selling over 1,200 units and surpassing our expectations by raising nearly $300,000 in backing.

I personally handled all aspects of industrial design and other design work for the project.

The Knob Coffee Grinder both simplifies and improves the coffee grinder (the knobs on it give its name). Traditional grinders come with an outer chamber that holds the beans, and an inner grinding stone that rotates on an axle (which you manually crank). However, this ever-important axle can sometimes wobble or shake while it’s trying to crush the beans, causing them to grind into uneven pieces, resulting in inconsistencies that cause your coffee to taste bad. The most obvious solution until now has been just to make the axle stronger and less prone to wobbling, although it’s had mixed results. The Knob Coffee Grinder removed this axle completely, designing a completely new grinding mechanism in the process and doesn’t use an axle, but rather, lets you directly rotate the burrs instead.

No Axle, No Wobbling

The most critical feature of a coffee grinder in revealing its quality is certainly its consistency.

Removed the axle entirely, which was very difficult to center, to prevent wobbling and ensure perfect consistency. Using an axle to hold everything in place did not prove to be any good for us, so removed it from the design. This is why it is one and first of a kind.

The lid of the knob Coffee Grinder can also be used for measuring the coffee beans before the grinding process.

Switching the Knob Grinder to portable mode is quick and easy. Grinder designed a crank that can be detached by means of a simple knob.

Portable Mode

Eliminating the axle and the other unnecessary components gives the grinder a unique interior volume. It makes cleaning the interior much easier than any other grinder on the market.
